RRB Technician CEN No. 02/2025 Syllabus & Pattern Overview

Railway Recruitment Boards (RRB) has released the official syllabus and exam pattern for the recruitment of Technician Categories (CEN No. 02/2025). The recruitment process involves a Computer Based Test (CBT), followed by Document Verification (DV) and Medical Examination (ME). There will be a separate CBT for each pay level. CBT Scheme & Marking

  • Negative Marking: 1/3rd (0.33) of marks deducted for each wrong answer.

  • Normalization: Applicable for multi-shift exams.

  • UR & EWS Category: 40%
  • OBC (NCL) & SC Category: 30%
  • ST Category: 25%

1. Pattern & Syllabus for Technician Gr I Signal (Pay Level 5)

The Technician Grade I Signal question paper consists of 100 objective-type questions to be answered in 90 minutes. Below is the subject-wise distribution and topic breakdown:

Technician Grade I Signal Detailed Topics:

  • General Awareness: Knowledge of Current affairs, Indian geography, culture and history of India including freedom struggle, Indian Polity and constitution, Indian Economy, Environmental issues concerning India and the World, Sports, General scientific and technological developments, etc.
  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and decision making, Similarities and differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions, etc.
  • Basics of Computers and Applications: Architecture of Computers; Input and Output devices; Storage devices, Networking, Operating System (Windows, Unix, Linux); MS Office; Various data representation; Internet and Email; Websites & Web Browsers; Computer Virus.
  • Mathematics: Number system, Rational and irrational numbers, BODMAS rule, Quadratic Equations, Arithmetic Progression, Similar Triangles, Pythagoras Theorem, Co-ordinate Geometry, Trigonometrical Ratios, Heights and distances, Surface area and Volume; Sets (Representations, Empty, Finite & Infinite sets, Subsets, Venn diagrams, Union/Intersection, Difference & Complement); Statistics (Measures of Dispersion, Range, Mean deviation, variance, standard deviation, probability events).
  • Basic Science and Engineering:
    • Physics Fundamentals: Units, Measurements, Mass, Weight, Density, Work, Power, Energy, Speed and Velocity, Heat and Temperature.
    • Electricity and Magnetism: Electric Charge, Field, Intensity, Potential and Potential Difference, Simple Electric Circuits, Conductors, Insulators, Ohm’s Law, Resistances in Series and Parallel, Specific Resistance, Relation between Potential, Energy, and Power (Wattage), Ampere’s Law, Magnetic Force on Moving Charged Particles, Electromagnetic Induction, Faraday’s Law, Electromagnetic Flux.
    • Electronics and Measurements: Basic Electronics, Digital Electronics, Electronic Devices and Circuits, Microcontroller, Microprocessor, Electronic Measurements, Measuring Systems and Principles, Range Extension Methods, Cathode Ray Oscilloscope (CRO), LCD, LED Panel, Transducers.

2. Pattern & Syllabus for Technician Gr III (Pay Level 2)

The Technician Grade III CBT exam is common for all trades under Pay Level 2. The paper has 100 questions of objective type to be answered in 90 minutes.

  • Mathematics: Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work; Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc.
  • General Intelligence & Reasoning: Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and decision making, Similarities and differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions etc.
  • General Science: The syllabus covers Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of 10th standard level.
  • General Awareness: Current affairs in Science & Technology, Sports, Culture, Personalities, Economics, Politics and any other subject of importance.
